Peculiarities of copyright protection under Ukrainian law

The main act concerning copyright protection is the Law of Ukraine "On Copyright and Related Rights", which has been in force since 1993. According to this document, the objects of copyright are:

• literary works, publishing projects (novels, short stories, poems, articles);
• audiovisual works, paintings, graphic images, photos;
• movie scripts, broadcasts;
• websites;
• computer programs;
• scientific works, dissertations, manuals.

The list is non-exhaustive. The ownership of copyright by its owner (the author or persons to whom the property right has been transferred by law) is indicated by the © symbol, which is affixed to all copies of the work. To ensure reliable protection of intellectual property, copyright should be registered with the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture and a certificate should be obtained.

It is also worth noting that copyright can be both proprietary (use of the work, prohibition or permission to use it by others) and non-property (recognition of authorship, the requirement to preserve the integrity of the work, the right to a pseudonym, the prohibition of mentioning the name of the author in the public use of the object - at his request).
