A Polish residence card (karta pobytu) is the plastic card a foreigner receives after the voivode grants a permit to stay. Most often it confirms a temporary residence permit (zezwolenie na pobyt czasowy) for up to 3 years for work, business, studies, family reunification or under the EU Blue Card. Since 27 April 2026 the application is filed only online through the MOS system; stamp duty is PLN 340, or PLN 440 for a residence and work permit, plus PLN 100 for the card. Ukrainians with UKR status have a separate CUKR card. Facts checked on 9 October 2026.

What we do

  • Identify the ground that fits you: work, business, studies, family, Blue Card or CUKR.
  • Check your legal stay deadlines so the application is filed on time.
  • Draw up the document list and arrange sworn translations into Polish.
  • Complete the MOS application and support you through fingerprints and the decision.
  • Plan renewals and the move to EU long-term resident status.

What we need from you

  • Passport and details of your current status in Poland.
  • Documents on the purpose of stay: contract, company data, university enrolment, marriage certificate.
  • Proof of housing, income and health insurance.
  • Access to Profil Zaufany or another way to sign in MOS.

How to apply through MOS

1
MOS account
Register at mos.cudzoziemcy.gov.pl and log in via login.gov.pl.
2
Application and documents
Online form, photo, scans of documents on purpose, housing, income and insurance, proof of stamp duty payment (paid by bank transfer outside MOS).
3
Signature
Profil Zaufany, a qualified electronic signature or the personal e-ID signature.
4
Visit to the office
The voivode’s office for your place of residence invites you to give fingerprints and, if needed, to supplement documents.
5
Decision and card
After a positive decision the residence card is produced and collected in person.

The application must be filed by the last day of your legal stay. Paper applications are no longer processed after 27 April 2026; exceptions (some family cases, intra-corporate transfers, mobility) are still filed on paper.

Typical document set

  • MOS application and a recent photo;
  • valid passport (scan of all completed pages);
  • documents on the purpose of stay: employment contract and the employer’s annex, KRS extract and company accounts, university enrolment letter, marriage or birth certificate;
  • proof of stable income and health insurance;
  • proof of the right to housing: lease or ownership;
  • proof of stamp duty payment.

Documents in a foreign language are filed with a sworn translation into Polish. We check the list for your specific ground and voivodeship before filing, as offices may request additional documents.

Work and the EU Blue Card

A residence and work permit is granted when there is a Polish employer and the terms of employment comply with the law. The EU Blue Card is for specialists with higher education or proven professional experience: the 2026 salary threshold is 150% of the 2025 average salary (PLN 8,903.56), which is PLN 13,355.34 gross per month or PLN 160,264.08 per year.

Remote work and the “digital nomad visa”

The MOS catalogue of purposes of stay has no separate visa or permit for digital nomads. Remote work for a foreign employer is not, by itself, a ground for a residence card. For such clients we assess other routes: your own Polish company with a business permit, employment in a Polish entity, family or studies.

Rights of a residence card holder

  • Living in Poland for the permit period and travelling in the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
  • Work within the terms of the specific permit.
  • Legal stay counts towards the 5 years needed for EU long-term resident status.
JDG (sole proprietorship) from 5 March 2026. A standard residence and work permit gives no right to open a JDG. A Ukrainian citizen can register a JDG with PESEL UKR, a CUKR card, a permanent residence permit, EU long-term resident status or the Pole’s Card.
