Get a DUNS Number for Your Ukrainian Company

To get a DUNS number for a Ukrainian company, plan for anything from a few business days to about six weeks. The timeline depends on the channel you apply through and on how closely your application matches the registries. Below is the process the Legal Solutions team goes through with clients: what to prepare, which channel to use, what timelines to expect and how to respond when Dun & Bradstreet or Apple returns an application. Facts checked against primary sources on 21.09.2026.

What a DUNS number is and who asks for it in 2026

D-U-N-S is the nine-digit ID that Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) gives to businesses and keeps up to date. The D&B database lists over 600 million businesses worldwide. Numbers are issued per location, so every office address of the same company carries its own number.

D&B states plainly that a business can operate without one. You need the number when a counterparty asks for it:

• Apple Developer Program for organizations. Apple asks every organization for a D&B number and exempts only government bodies.
• Google Play. Google requires a D-U-N-S number and an organizational website for company developer accounts.
• Android Developer Console. Verification starts on 30.09.2026 in four countries (Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand) and goes global in 2027. Organizations verify with a D-U-N-S number.
• Foreign buyers and banks. D&B says large corporations often request the number when they vet a new supplier or decide on credit. The Ukrainian D&B partner adds trade credit and talks about becoming a supplier or representative of a foreign company.
• Government bodies in individual US states and cities. D&B also names public institutions in the EU and Australia that rely on the number.

US federal grants and contracts follow separate rules. SAM.gov switched to its own Unique Entity ID on 4 April 2022 and has not used the D&B number since. The steps for a Ukrainian company are in our article on SAM.gov registration, UEI and NCAGE.

Who assigns DUNS numbers in Ukraine

The D&B operating office for Ukraine is A.B.M. Ryzyk-Inform LLC at dnb.com.ua. It has been a D&B partner since 1994, maintains the database of Ukrainian companies and assigns and verifies numbers. On the global D&B site, an international applicant registering for general purposes is sent to the country selector, which leads to the same partner. Apple and Google have their own routes, covered below.

How to get a DUNS number, step by step

Step 1. Search for an existing number. D&B and Apple both advise a search first, since a duplicate application only wastes time. You can use D&B's free D-U-N-S Number Lookup on the D&B site, the lookup inside Apple's developer account (available after Apple Account sign-in) or a written request to the Ukrainian D&B partner.

Step 2. Pick the channel. The purpose decides the route:

• for the App Store, apply through Apple's form, which passes your data to D&B;
• for Google Play, use D&B's page for Google developers, which lists the same Ukrainian partner, dnb.com.ua;
• for partners, banks and supplier forms, use the D&B Ukraine request form.

Step 3. Agree on the English name and address. Apple and Google match your application against the D&B profile by exactly these two fields. The D&B Ukraine form asks for the official company name in English, and neither D&B nor Apple publishes a single transliteration rule. So we take the spelling the company already uses in contracts, banking and on its website, and keep it identical across every system.

Step 4. Fill in and submit the application. The field list is in the checklist below.

Step 5. Handle the D&B check. D&B warns that a representative may contact the applicant to validate the data. We run this correspondence for the client and report every reply.

Step 6. Enter the number where it is needed. Once assigned, the number goes into Apple Developer, Google Play Console or the supplier form. The name and address there must match the D&B profile character for character.

Application checklist

The D&B Ukraine form covers LLCs, organizations and sole traders (FOP) registered in Ukraine. It asks for:

• EDRPOU code or individual tax number;
• company, organization or sole trader name;
• official name in English;
• actual address;
• VAT payer number (12 digits for a legal entity);
• business phone, email and website;
• contact person: name, email, phone.

The form has no document upload and does not ask for the activity code (KVED). D&B's global form can add questions about legal structure, founding year, main industry, the owner or chief executive and headcount split by full-time and part-time staff. For its lookup Apple wants the registered legal name, head office and postal addresses, and business contact details of whoever submits.

Official timelines

• D&B, regular request: as long as 30 business days.
• D&B, paid expedited request: within 8 business days of submitting the form. This option is described on D&B's US site, which does not state the price.
• Through Apple: D&B issues the number within 5 business days, and passing the record to Apple takes a further 2 business days at most. After two weeks, Apple advises contacting D&B. Paying for expedited processing does not shorten this wait for Apple.
• Google Play: Google's own estimate is a maximum of 30 days.
• D&B Ukraine: no published timeline; after the form is sent, the partner says it will get in touch.

Can you get a DUNS number for free?

Yes. D&B charges nothing for the number itself, and Apple calls it free in most jurisdictions. D&B Ukraine does not publish a price for assigning a number; the paid products on its site are company reports, a separate service.

Handing the DUNS registration to a lawyer pays off most in three situations:

• you need the number by a date: an app launch, a tender, a contract signing;
• Apple or Google turned the application down because the data did not line up;
• the company has changed its name, address or director, and the D&B profile needs fixing.

DUNS number registration for the App Store and Google Play

Apple (enrollment requirements):

• an organization enrolls only as a legal entity; Apple rejects DBAs, trade names and branches;
• the number must be registered to the legal entity, whose name Apple shows as the seller on the App Store;
• the website must be public, live and hosted on the organization's own domain; a social profile or a parked registrar page fails the check;
• the applicant must have signing authority;
• the Apple Developer Program fee is USD 99 per year.

Google Play (Help Center):

• Google compares the name and address in your payments profile with D&B. If they differ, Google may restrict the account, up to taking every app off the store;
• after renaming or moving, fix the D&B record first. Syncing to Google takes up to 5 business days, then the developer goes through identity verification again;
• if a D-U-N-S number cannot be obtained in your country, Google support offers alternative verification.

DUNS for sole traders (FOP)

D&B Ukraine accepts requests for sole traders: the form has an "EDRPOU / individual tax number" field. Apple treats a sole trader as an individual enrollee, which removes the need for a D-U-N-S number. Google's personal developer accounts skip it as well. If a sole trader sells to a foreign buyer whose supplier form asks for a DUNS number, the number is requested through D&B Ukraine.

Why applications get rejected or delayed

• The application and the D&B record disagree. Apple's typical message: "The information you entered did not match your D&B profile" and asks you to update the profile if the legal name has changed.
• The application came from a branch or a trade name. Apple accepts only a legal entity as an organization.
• The company website is a social media page or a placeholder.
• The English name is spelled differently in the application, contracts, bank records and the Google payments profile.
• Paying for expedited processing to speed up Apple. For Apple it does not change the wait.
• An old DUNS is entered in SAM.gov. Since April 2022 SAM.gov requires the UEI.
