Spain digital nomad visa
quote after we review the task
The Spain digital nomad visa (teletrabajo de carácter internacional) is a visa of up to 1 year and a residence permit of up to 3 years, renewable for 2 years at a time, for people who work remotely for companies outside Spain. You need a university, vocational or business-school degree or at least 3 years of experience, a working relationship of at least 3 months with a company that has operated for at least a year, and income of at least 200% of the Spanish minimum wage (SMI) per month. Freelancers may do up to 20% of their work for Spanish clients. Ukrainians with temporary protection can apply for this permit from within Spain since 16 April 2026. Checked against Law 14/2013 in the BOE on 9 October 2026.
What we do

What we need from you
- Passport and a degree or proof of 3 years of experience.

How much you need to earn in 2026
The Spanish minimum wage for 2026 is €1,221 per month in 14 payments, or €17,094 per year (Royal Decree 126/2026). Consulates apply the 200% test to this base. Using the monthly rate gives about €2,442 per month; dividing the annual amount by 12 gives about €2,849 per month. Which base a given consulate or the UGE applies in 2026 has yet to be clarified officially, so we calculate your case with a margin and check it on the filing date.
| Household | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Applicant | 200% of SMI |
| Applicant + 1 family member | 200% + 75% of SMI |
| Each additional family member | +25% of SMI |
Visa or permit: where to apply
If you live outside Spain, you first obtain the international remote work visa at a Spanish consulate. It is valid for up to 1 year and itself allows you to live and work remotely in Spain. Within 60 days before it expires you can apply for the residence permit. If you are already in Spain lawfully, you can apply straight away for a permit of up to 3 years, electronically with the Large Companies and Strategic Groups Unit (UGE). By law the UGE decides within 20 days, and silence within that period counts as approval.
Documents
- Passport valid for the whole stay.
- Registry certificate showing when the employer or client company was formed and what it does, apostilled and translated into Spanish.
- Company letter: at least 3 months of service, income and permission to work remotely from Spain; for freelancers, the contracts and terms of work.
- Proof of income for you and your family.
- Degree or proof of 3 years of experience.
- Criminal record certificate for the last 2 years with an apostille and translation, plus a 5-year sworn statement.
- Health insurance without co-payments or limits, from an insurer authorised in Spain.
Documents from Ukraine (criminal record, translations, apostille) can be prepared with RegServ.
Digital nomad taxes
Anyone living in Spain for more than 183 days a year, or whose centre of economic interests is in Spain, becomes a Spanish tax resident. When moving with the remote work visa, you can opt for the special regime of Article 93 of the personal income tax law (the «Beckham law»): 24% on employment income up to €600,000 and 47% above that, for the year of arrival and the next 5 years, provided you were a non-resident for the previous 5 years. Crystal Tax prepares the tax calculation for your situation.
