Despite the possibility for Ukrainians to enter the Federal Republic of Germany without a visa, for a long stay in the country a visa is still required, and in addition to it it is necessary to obtain a residence permit in Germany. Temporary residence permit is a permit for legal residence in the country for more than 90 days. Most often such a permit is issued for a year.

After 5 years (in some cases - after three years) of residence status, foreigners are entitled to apply for a residence permit. Holders of an indefinite residence permit are endowed with the same rights and freedoms as German citizens, with the exception of the ability to participate in elections.

Foreigners who have received a temporary residence permit in a European state, acquire a number of advantages, in particular the right to:

• to move freely in Germany, other EU countries for more than 90 days for six months;
• to reside in the territory of the state together with their families and children;
• to work, to receive education in Germany;
• to open bank accounts, receive loans in German banks;
• receive quality medical care on a par with local residents;

• count on a permanent residence permit in the future.

The grounds for registration of a residence permit in Germany may include:

• employment under a contract with an invitation from a German employer (labor immigration);
• education of young people at school, university;
• marriage to a resident (after marriage, marriage to a citizen/citizen), family reunification (including for pensioners);
• German or Jewish origin;
• economic independence (the exact criteria are not specified in the legislation, but legal practice shows that monthly passive income per family for financially independent persons is 4000-5000 euros, capital - from 1 million euros);

• graduates of German universities or other prestigious educational institutions in the world;
• professionals with higher education and work experience in a similar field for more than 5 years;
• salaried employees who have a contract with a German company for the amount of 55.2 thousand euros per year or more. Representatives of some professions (programmers, engineers, ecologists, biologists) this limit is lower and as of 2020 is just over 43 thousand euros.

Renewal of residence permit is carried out after the expiration of the first term of up to three years. Loss of residence permit is possible in case of change of citizenship, absence of passport, eviction from the country, departure from the territory of the state for more than six months.

Requirements for applicants for a residence permit in Germany

• No criminal record.
• Knowledge of the German language - in most cases.
• Proof of sufficient financial security.
• Availability of real estate for residence in the ownership or in the lease. Nevertheless, when buying real estate 100% guarantee of obtaining a residence permit is impossible.

Algorithm for obtaining a residence permit

The first step in the procedure of emigration - the correct choice of grounds, collecting documents and submitting them to the consulate in the home country.

It will be necessary to submit:

• a questionnaire filled out in German;
• 3 photos 35x45 mm;
• valid passport;
• bank statements;
• a rental agreement (or a document of real estate ownership);
• insurance policy with coverage of at least 30 thousand euros.

When applying for a residence permit through study you will need a certificate from an educational institution, when going to work in the consulate is a copy of the employment contract, an invitation from the employer. The diplomatic mission issues a visa D, labor or student visa.

Upon arrival in the FRG it is necessary to apply to the immigration office with a package of documents, "buy" residence permit by paying the state fee. At the end of the procedure a plastic card with biometric data is issued.
